Terms of Service

1. Who you are contracting with

These terms are an agreement between you and [LEGAL NAME], [BUSINESS ADDRESS], [COUNTRY] ("we", "us"). They apply when you download, install or use the BubbleTranslate application, and when you buy a Pro licence.

If you do not agree with them, do not install or use the app.

2. What the app does

BubbleTranslate runs in the background on macOS and Linux. When you select text in another application, a small bubble appears near your cursor showing a translation of it. The app detects the source language on its own and translates into the language you have chosen.

The app does not translate anything itself. It sends your selected text to a third-party translation service — Google Translate, MyMemory or DeepL, in the order you configure — and displays what comes back. Section 7 covers what that means for you.

3. The free tier and Pro

The app is free to install and use for ten translations a day. The count resets at your local midnight. Re-selecting text you have already translated the same day does not count again, and a translation that fails does not count at all.

A Pro licence removes the daily limit. It costs $2 per month or $20 per year. Turkish customers are charged in lira through PayTR at the prices shown on the checkout page, which are set independently and are not a currency conversion of the dollar prices.

Prices shown on this site exclude any tax that applies to you. The amount you will actually be charged is shown at checkout before you pay.

4. What a Pro licence gives you

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app for the period you have paid for, on up to three machines at a time.

Activation binds your licence to a machine. If you want to use a fourth, open the Account tab on a machine you no longer use and choose "Remove from this device", which frees the slot immediately.

Your licence key is yours. Do not publish it or share it outside the machines you use. Sharing a key so that other people can use Pro without paying is a breach of these terms and grounds for us to end the licence.

Once activated, the app checks your entitlement locally against a signed token, and renews that token roughly once a month. The app does not need to reach us to keep working day to day, and it will keep working for weeks if it cannot.

5. Billing and renewal

Outside Turkey, Pro is a subscription sold through Paddle, which acts as merchant of record. It renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the account page linked in the app; you keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for, and are not charged again.

In Turkey, a licence is sold for a fixed term through PayTR and does not renew automatically. It ends on a date, which the account page shows you. To carry on afterwards you buy another term. There is nothing to cancel and no recurring charge.

If a renewal payment fails, the licence lapses when its paid term ends and the app returns to the free tier. Nothing is deleted and nothing breaks.

6. Refunds

Refunds are covered by our Refund & Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these terms.

7. Third-party translation services

This is the most important limitation in these terms, so it gets its own section.

Translations are produced by services we do not own or control. We cannot promise that a translation is accurate, complete or fit for any particular purpose, and machine translation is routinely wrong in ways that are not obvious. Do not rely on it for anything where being wrong matters — medical, legal, financial or safety-critical text especially.

Those services also decide their own availability, rate limits and terms, and may change or withdraw them. If a provider throttles or blocks requests, the app falls through to the next one you have configured, and if none answers you will see an error. A provider being unavailable is not a failure of your licence and is not grounds for a refund of a period already used.

By using the app you also accept the terms of the provider whose service you have configured it to use. Where you supply your own DeepL API key, your use of DeepL is a matter between you and DeepL.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the app to break the law, or to process text you have no right to process;
• work around the daily limit, the licence check or the machine limit, or help anyone else to;
• resell, sublicense or redistribute the app or a licence key;
• attack, overload or probe our licence service, or use it other than through the app.

The app's source is published, and you are welcome to read it, build it and modify it for your own use under whatever licence the repository states. Nothing in this section is meant to stop that. What it stops is passing off a modified build as a way around paying.

9. Availability

We aim to keep the licence service running, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted. It is deliberately not on the path of a translation, so an outage of ours does not stop the app from translating: it only prevents new activations and token renewals for as long as it lasts.

10. Changes to the app and to these terms

We may change the app, and may change these terms. If a change materially reduces what a current Pro licence gives you, we will not apply it to a period you have already paid for.

Changed terms are posted here with a new date. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept them.

11. Ending this agreement

You may stop using the app at any time; uninstalling it ends this agreement, subject to the refund policy for any period already paid.

We may suspend or end a licence if these terms are breached, in particular section 8. Where a breach is not serious we will contact you first. If we end a licence for a reason that is not your breach, we will refund the unused part of the period.

12. Disclaimer

Except where the law says otherwise, the app is provided "as is". We do not warrant that it will be error-free, that it will work with every application on your system, or that translations will be accurate.

Nothing here excludes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by law. If you are a consumer, you keep those rights whatever these terms say.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits or data, or for any loss arising from reliance on a translation. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app or a licence is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of [GOVERNING LAW], and its courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, or of the right to bring proceedings there.
